Mosaic combines two previous films, Vertical and Horizontal, and synthesises the dance of dots resulting from the superposition of the two films. In addition, live action is used to give circularity to the animation. Despite the use of synthetic music, drawn on celluloid by McLaren himself, the director believed that his linear films were based on the circularity of Hindu music.
