A symbolic film, based on static shots whose composition and colour seems those of archival material, perhaps advertisements from the 50s. Some shots are, effectively, appropriations from different sources, but they constitute a small part of the story. Alpsee tells the story of a child who lives with his mother and who, in his encounter with objects and images, invokes the figure of his absent father. The film does not compose as much a story as a state of mind, melancholy and self-absorption, also known as growing up. It also evokes an era, its dreams and its conventions, its affections and its customs.
