Denise Batchelor is a visual artist based in the Hokianga, in the far north of New Zealand. Working primarily in digital media (photography, video and installation), Batchelor’s focus is on ecology: the relationships of living organisms and their habitat.
“Observing the natural world is the most fulfilling thing I can do, and through my lens I share and communicate these observations with others. Conservation and sustainability are interests which also inform my work, because the earth needs our attention right now.”
Batchelor has exhibited widely in New Zealand for the past ten years, and internationally in Sweden, Germany, Italy, USA, Scotland and France. A recipient of artist residencies and art awards, her work is held in public and private collections, including the Wallace Arts Trust. Batchelor is a MFA graduate (2010) from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, Auckland.
