Werner Nekes shows the fascination for moving images that led to the birth of film. There are games of shadows, worlds, animated books, cosmoramas, magic lanterns, lithophanies, panoramic movements, the first animations and many other historical artifices. Working with these formats, the first "producers" anticipated many of the film forms known today.
