"Vanitas is another film that uses the strategy of frames within frames, like Fiction/Reality and Chillida, but in a very different way, as a film within a film. It also has to do with performance, but this performance creates individual events that set up films contained within themselves, becoming meta-commentaries analogous to the film, or films. A young woman throws bubbles in a landscape. The camera follows each bubble as it moves away, until it bursts, at which point we return to the woman. Each bubble is also a type of film in terms of its constituent material.
