XCÈNTRIC NIGHT

Exposed Cinema

J. L. Guerin is given carte blanche on the occasion of his photo-sequence installation, Las mujeres que no conocemos (Women We Don't Know, on exhibit at the CCCB, 22 January - 30 March). This session includes two little-known works by two classical authors: Ingmar Bergman's Karins ansikte is a filmed portrait of his mother, Karin; whereas Bezhin Lug is a montage using the surviving photograms from an otherwise destroyed Eisenstein film dealing with the tragic lives of farmers in the Soviet Union.

Karins ansikte (Karen's Face), Ingmar Bergman, Sweden, 1984. 14', 35 mm
Bezhin Lug
(Bezhin Meadow), Sergei Eisenstein, USSR, 1937. 31', 35 mm
