The session will include Textiles Past and Prologue (2006-2024, 17 min) and Ventriloquent Agitators (2010, 43 min), two works that, in the artist's own words, "propose options to standard cinematic preconditions of a filmstrip threaded in a projector. The first is subtractive in that the film shoe and bracket assembly are removed to disengage film from the projector's claw resulting in a plastic free fall of deformation. The second is an additive arrangement using metal plates inserted in the same film shoe assembly to define alternate boundaries of focal length between the gate, film, inserts and beyond. In both works sound, often maligned by film purists as unessential to image, is foregrounded at the exciter lamp on the projector's second stage, the optical sound system. Once again we are presented with two operations. In the first, waveforms captured and synced with pictures on film according to industry's standards are allowed to glide in a rather flat but faithful narration indifferent to, but highlighting, the public disturbances on the screen. In the second, the boundaries between film base and emulsion, the absence or presence of emulsion on the film substrate, create asynchronous electronic signals that are processed by the projectionist in a matrix of guitar effects pedals letting loose an assertive broadcast."
