Santiago was, in real life, the man that used to work as a butler in Joao Moreira Salles' house when he was a boy. In his dreams, Santiago pictured himself as part of the European aristocracy, which he observed meticulously. In an totally intimate essay, the director tries to understand Santiago's essence, and at the same time he reflects on the documentary genre and the complicated class relationship between himself and his dead butler, which gets complicated by Santiago's fantasies of changing from slave to master.
