The new film by Pedro Costa adds another vital part to his series of films set in Fontainhas, a marginal district of the Portuguese capital. The return of his character Ventura, converted here into a trembling spectre, shows us the disinherited, the voice of those who are pointedly overlooked. Darkness tinges this uncompromising look at recent Portuguese history, from the Carnation Revolution of 1974 up to the present-day moment of confusion.
