Adamantine bridges: The Illiac Passion by Gregory J. Markopoulos

Xcèntric, the CCCB's cinema

Based on Thoreau’s translation of Prometheus Bound, by Aeschylus, The Illiac Passion brings together some essential myths for Markopoulos. Personalities on the New York scene (Andy Warhol, Jack Smith, Gerard Malanga, Taylor Mead) are filmed to transform old characters into new (and intense) bodies for contemplation. A definitive form of editing thereby crystallizes: the language of diamonds. Presentation by the team of Revista Lumière.

The Illiac Passion, Gregory J. Markopoulos, 1964-67, 16 mm, 92 min.

More films by Markopoulos will be shown at Filmoteca de Catalunya on 3, 4, 5 February 2015. These screenings are taking place to celebrate the publication of “Film as Film: The Collected Writings of Gregory J. Markopoulos”. For more information see www.thevisiblepress.com
