Elke Marhöfer was born in Baracoa, Cuba and lives in Berlin. She studied Fine Arts at the University of the Arts in Berlin, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York. She works with notions of self-admitted foreignness, radical othering, heterogeneous perceptions of time, the ahistorical and disorientations of narratives. Recent exhibitions include: the FCAC Shanghai, China (2010); Houston Museum of Fine Arts (2013).
