Elena Gorfinkel

Elena Gorfinkel is a film scholar and critic, and Reader in Film Studies at King’s College London. Gorfinkel’s research, writing and curation concerns independent, underground, and experimental cinemas, and women’s filmmaking practices. She is the author of Wanda (BFI Film Classics, Bloomsbury, 2025); The Prop, with John David Rhodes (Cutaways, Fordham, 2025), and Lewd Looks: American Sexploitation Cinema in the 1960s (Minnesota, 2017); she is co-editor of the volumes Global Cinema Networks (Rutgers, 2018) and Taking Place: Location & the Moving Image (Minnesota, 2011). Her film curation includes the programmes “Grandma’s Grammar” at Open City Documentary Film Festival London (2024) and “Wanda and Beyond: The World of Barbara Loden” at BFI Southbank (June 2025). Her criticism has been published in venues such as Criterion, MUBI Notebook, Sight & Sound, Cinemascope and Art Monthly.
