Caitlin Craggs is a New York City based animator who makes playful films about ecology, identity, bodies, power and possibilities. Her practice weaves together many modes of film and art making—stop-motion, cel animation, puppetry, sculpture, dance, projection, practical effects—rendering our world stranger and more luminous.
Projects include a pixelated dream ballet about a giant mammoth skull, a trilogy of films about vegetables and modernity, and an episodic series about the sex lives of insects. Her commission work for documentary often tackles scientific themes, from a docuseries about animals that are not considered cute enough for conservation to a poetic short about the neuroscience of touch.
Caitlin’s mixed-media work has been supported by the Sundance Institute, SPACE at Ryder Farms, the Princess Grace Foundation, NARS and the New York Film Festival Artist Academy. Her films have screened in festivals worldwide including Rotterdam, Slamdance, Images and BAM Cinemafest, and have been featured in the New York Times, The Atlantic, Cartoon Brew, Mold and Vimeo. She is an Assistant Professor of 2D Animation at Pratt Institute.
