Rhythmus 21

Rhythmus 21 is the first film by Hans Richter, in which he experiments with square shapes. These forms appear in compositions ranging from very simple to very complex; from the first shots in which the squares occupy the entire screen to compositions of squares within the frame. The effect is a subversion of the cinematic illusion of depth. Richter creates a precise rhythm with the movement of these forms.
