As part of the parallel activities to the exhibition Making Africa, Xcèntric welcomes to Barcelona the filmmaker of Ghanaian origin, Akosua Adoma Owusu. A session of screenings will follow a conversation with African film specialist Beatriz Leal.

18.30 - New Voices of African Cinema
Conversation with Akosua Adoma Owusu, moderated by Beatriz Leal (in English, with simultaneous translation into Catalan).

20.00 - Struggling Awareness. The Work of Akosua Adoma Owusu
Akosua Adoma Owusu’s award-winning short films are a finely-worked visual, narrative and sound intertwining of Akan myths, Kente cloth, hair weaves, music, autobiographical data and references of the Afro-American community. The tension between her Ghanaian roots and the experience of the US diaspora challenge our expectations of culture, gender, identity and African postcolonial history.

Presentation by the filmmaker Akosua Adoma Owusu and the programmer Beatriz Leal.
