Rumpelstilzchen

Rumpelstilzchen is not a coherent and free exercise of deconstruction or recontextualisation; the material distortions overlap and abstract the images; the narrative is a fragmented, confusing and hallucinatory drama in which the images and voices form a loop and resonate. This puts the emphasis on the gothic and disturbing oddity of this folk tale and reawakens it. Imbued with the dark German romanticism filtered through post-industrial detritus, Rumpelstilzchen is within the consecrated folkloric tradition of rewriting; contemporary in its reinterpretation, it preserves the vestiges of its primitive form.
